A fun family activity – make your own piñata at home out of a brown paper bag, tissue paper, and a few other items!!
What You’ll Need:
- Stapler
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Hole punch
- Brown paper bag
- Tissue paper in assorted colors
- Twine or thin rope
- Candy or other treats (for filling)
Instructions:
- Fill the bag. Place your candy or treats at the bottom of the bag, filling to about half way so the bag doesn’t get too heavy. Add loosely crumpled tissue paper on top of the treats.
- Close the bag. Fold over the top of your paper bag and staple it shut.
- Make the tissue paper base. Cut a piece of tissue paper that’s 2 inches wider on all sides than the base of the brown bag. Spread glue all over one side of the tissue paper.
- Place the bag on top of the glue covered tissues paper, in the center. Wrap the excess tissue paper up around the base of the bag.
- Stack a few pieces of tissue on top of each other. Fold them in half horizontally. Then in half again the same way. Then in half again for a third time the same way.
- Use scissors to cut fringe along the bottom of the strips, not cutting all the way to the top. Fringe about 1 inch of paper, and leave about 1 inch uncut.
- Unfold the fringed tissue paper. Spread glue along the uncut side of the fringed tissue paper strips. OR tape the uncut edge of the tissue paper to the bag.
- Wrap the tissue paper strips around the bag, overlapping and layering as you go up the bag.
- Use a hole puncher to punch two holds in the top of the bag.
- Cut a piece of string and weave it through the holes punched in the bag. Tie up the ends.
- Fill the piñata with whatever treats or small prizes you like. A few suggestions: Hair Bands, Clips, and Bows. … Pencil Toppers. …. Jumping Frogs. …Finger Puppets …Snack Pouches. …and everyone’s favorite – CANDY!
