Children should have adult supervision for this activity. It is recommended an adult cut the pineapple carefully, showing the child how it is done. Knife safety is always first.
You will need a sharp knife and a large stable cutting board.
- On the cutting board lay the pineapple on its side and slice off the green part on top also known as the crown.
- Cut evenly across the bottom of the pineapple cutting off about ½ inch off the bottom.
- Standing the pineapple up on the bottom carefully trim the thick skin, starting from the top to the bottom. Cut only the prickly skin and not the fruit. You want to save as much as the pineapple to enjoy.
- Once the skin is off carefully remove the brown spots with a small paring knife.
- Cut the pineapple in half through the center and cut the pineapple into 4 pieces lengthwise.
- Cut out the thick, tough core from the center of each pineapple wedge.
- Finally, cut the pineapple into chunks. Add to a delicious fruit salad and Enjoy!
