Easy & Delicious Chocolate Easter Bunnies

This recipe is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to use a mold to make candy. Make more than one  and wrap each bunny in foil to give as a gift.

You will need:

  • A bunny candy mold – available at craft and hobby stores. Make sure you have a mold for each side of the bunny.
  • Chocolate – 12 oz (more depending on size of mold) chocolate chips or cut a chocolate bar into small pieces. A traditional Easter bunny is made from Milk Chocolate. Other chocolates to use- Dark, White, or Semi-Sweet. You choose.
  • Coconut Oil – 2 teaspoons
  • Edible candy eyes – Optional
  • Foil chocolate wrappers or plastic wrap – Optional

Directions:

  1. Place the chocolate pieces and the Coconut Oil into a microvavable safe bowl, ideally one with a pour spout for ease of pouring the melted chocolate into the mold.
  2. Melt in microwave for 1 ½ – 2 minutes at 70% power. Remove from microwave and stir until smooth.
  3. Carefully pour chocolate into both halves of the mold. If the bunny mold has detail pour the chocolate in slowly tilting the mold to allow the chocolate to fill the grooves. Fill each mold with the melted chocolate and wait a few seconds before putting each half of the bunny mold together. Clip both molds together and allow time for the chocolate to harden.
  4. The time to harden depend on the size of the mold. Once hard to the touch , put in the freezer for 30 minutes, remove, and carefully loosen and then remove the bunny from the mold.  Use a sharp knife to trim off any excess chocolate.
