DIY Indoor Herb Garden
What you need:
- Planter
- Herb seeds of your choice
- Seed starting mix (potting soil)
- Water
- Sunlight (a good windowsill)
- Fertilizer
- Patience
How to:
- Fill the planter with seed starting mix, about 4 to 6 inches deep.
- Read the directions on the herb seeds package and follow. These will tell you how deep to plant the seeds, if they should be scattered over the soil, and if they should be lightly misted or left uncovered.
- Once planted, place the planter on a windowsill, preferably south-facing.
- Water herb plants daily, making sure they’re not too dry but not too wet. Stick your finger one inch into the soil to check moisture.
- Wait according to seed package growing time. (typically, at least a few weeks)
- Once fully grown harvest your herbs, only up to one-third of the plant at a time so it can grow back before cutting it again.
- Routinely remove dense parts of the plant and stray leaves to keep your plant healthy and full.
- Enjoy your herbs!
Tips:
- Make sure to space out your herbs to give them airflow
- Herbs grow best in 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit (typical indoor temperatures) so avoid placing them near cold or drafty windows
