Get Kids Cooking in 2022

Cooking with Kids is important, and studies show children who cook learn how to eat healthy by providing them the opportunity to make informed choices about the food they eat. Introduce your kids to good nutrition early and choose delicious easy to make, and nutritious recipes. Plus cooking together is fun and provides an opportunity to make memories together.

Families are busy with work, school, extracurricular activities, and time is limited. Cooking with kids every night may not be possible but even one meal a week is a good start.

Here are a few family cooking suggestions:

  • Plan a weekly meal schedule and have kids assist with a shopping list for ingredients. Purchase a fun chalkboard listing each day of the week to add dinner.
  • Have kids help plan and prepare daily lunches to include snacks they love. One lunch should have a surprise snack.
  • If not possible to cook weeknights cook food on the weekends and reheat during the week.
  • On the weekends prepare casseroles and large batches to provide premade dinners during the week.
  • Choose theme dinners that kids will find fun. Kids can research the theme and the history of the recipes. Table decorations can reflect the theme. A few examples: Mexican, Italian, pizza, and baseball themed dinners.
  • Make the Kitchen Ink’s 30-minute pizza recipe found under recipes on this dite and have kids choose their own toppings – everyone loves a pizza party!
